Choosing a Personal Trainer or Coach

When it comes to picking a Personal Trainer or Coach the decision of who you decide to go with generally comes down to two main reasons, relationships and results. Relationships refers to simply who do you know, who were you referred to, or who do you connect with? Contrastingly results refers to which Coach do you trust will help you achieve the best result? There is an important distinction between the two and you should be acutely aware of why you’ve opted for your particular Personal Trainer. Don’t expect results from a trainer you picked purely based on your attraction to them. Likewise don’t expect the Coach you picked for a result to go easy on you when you feel like chatting about your weekend.

Personally being a Senior Performance Coach, almost all of my clients at Fitness First Bond Street and Bondi were referred to me because that person was looking for a result. However the referrals were provided to me because of the relationships I had with other people. Clearly there is some cross over between the two components.

In an industry as deregulated as the fitness industry you have to truly search hard to find the right fit as the standards of coaching vary enormously. Ultimately if you’re able to find a Coach who pushes you to achieve a result AND you have a positive relationship with, you’ve got the perfect combo in my opinion.
